The Village and Soho are my favorite neighborhoods in New-York City. In general I love the south of Manhattan. It feels different from the Midtown part, maybe because there are fewer tourists and lower buildings. All sorts of things there make a feeling of a real "village" life (except in the financial district).
I will share with you today some photos I took around (not much as I try to enjoy going out there and not carrying all my gears) and some of my favorite places to eat and drink!
Places to eat:
If you are vegan, you will love the Urban Vegan Kitchen (41 Carmine St). Even if you are not vegan you will enjoy it! The food is super delicious and well thought. You will find burgers, sandwiches, in a nutshell mostly classic American cuisine in a vegan form! And of course this place also have cocktails. Price range $$
As a French, I couldn't forget to recommend a French restaurant. Balthazar (80 Spring St), offers classical French cuisine, as "bavette", "moules frites" and "soupe à l'oignon". A negative point, this place is always packed, make sure to do a reservation before going. Price range $$$
If you are craving some sushi, a lot of places are pretty good, Nagomi (179 Prince St) and Blue Ribbon Sushi (119 Sullivan St) are two good sushi and Japanese cuisine restaurants worth trying (Price range $$$ and $$ resp.)
Places to drink:
You don't care much about the quality of the cocktails but care about the view, any rooftop bar will do: Azul on the Rooftop (525 Greenwich St, Hugo Hotel), Rooftop 93 (93 Bowery, Wyndham Garden Hotel) and Plunge Rooftop (on the Gansevoort Hotel, 18 9th Ave, Meatpacking). Price range $$$
If you want to have a great selection of beers, a good time and happy hours for pretty cheap, try to go around the crossing of Bleecker St and Thompson St. The Red Lion (151 Bleecker St) is pretty good for an early happy hour and The Malt House (206 Thompson St) offers a good selection of beers. Price range $$
Here you have it, the places that I have tried and liked the most in the south of Manhattan (and they are many more in the city worth trying). Of course I will continue to discover places I have never been. For sure I will do an update about these.
Take care. Lorrie
